The Restoration.

The Sub-strand.

The tale is so horrendously complex, we will need to distinguish the two timelines in which it takes place. The primary strand is the timeline that is documented in fiction and RP. The second timeline, the sub-strand, is the one that split away and was carried alongside the primary timeline. (A timeline is the same as a strand.)

The tech used to unleash hell in the Hell War was called the Temporal Rift Generator (ToRG.) Solus Kaelen instigated the Hell war, assisted by Versha Narumi (willingly) and Vahl Ravenhead (being controlled by Versha.)

The Keldran realms are not countries, they are different dimensions closely packed together and thought to be near-infinite in number.

The paradox created by Vahlmir has detailed explanation and is not simply deus ex machina, but it occurred over many RP threads and fics, and is not explained in detail here.

Once upon a time in the primary strand, when the timeline was already highly unstable, a rogue god created a paradox. Vahl Ravenhead was, at the time, under the control of his evil twin, Versha Narumi. It was she who forced him to commit this act. What Vahlmir did was to kill himself, have his soul carried forward in time, and transplanted into his future self. This should have been impossible, but the unique set of circumstances created the perfect storm in which this was achievable. It also created a paradox that split the timeline.

The timeline in which Vahlmir lived is the primary strand, and only altered in that Vahlmir became two versions of himself, having two sets of memories. The sub-strand is the timeline in which Vahlmir had died. Therefore, he was not around to side with Solus Kaelen and Versha Narumi in the Hell War.

Because of Vahlmir's absence in the sub-strand, he was not there to be the main intelligence behind ToRG. Because of this, all the gods who died in the primary strand, survived in the sub-strand.

Primary strand survivors:
Solus Kaelen (chieftain), Drake Kaelen(chieftain), Phoenix Kaelen, Sam Kaelen,
Ylaia Narumi (chieftain), Sacha Narumi,
Vahl Ravenhead (chieftain, with Versha dead, he was finally free), Malik Ravenhead,
Mae Gaimar, Erin Gaimar.
The sentient nebula - Danaë, also survived, but was only half-alive.

Sub-strand survivors:
Rowan Gaimar-Kaelen, Tai Ravenhead (chieftain),
Corvo Ravenhead, Versha Narumi (her unborn child died in her birthsphere), Tansy Narumi,
Beth Gaimar, Kizzie Gaimar.
Danaë was completely destroyed in this strand.

In the sub-strand, the ToRG catastrophically malfunctioned. It collapsed all the realms into one, destroying most of the world and wiping out life almost everywhere. Even with Solus dead there was still war, because the surviving entities - who included the terrible demons from the hell reams - were fighting to survive on a dying planet with only one realm available.

With Ylaia, Mae and Drake, three of the chieftains, dead, the junior gods inherited their powers. Versha, Beth, and Rowan - respectively - all became chieftains.

Tai Ravenhead, already emotionless and almost completely elemental, went mad and decided that all life had to be wiped out, in order for Keldra to at least be saved, and to start over again after this extinction-level event. Versha tried to stop him for completely selfish reasons; so for a long time, the two of them were at war and all other remaining life got caught in the crossfire.

Beth Gaimar and the remaining kayori fought for a long time, but even as allies their armies were depleted. Eventually, almost everything on Keldra was dead, and so they were in hiding underground. It was Beth who had taken the role of leader, being the eldest of all the new chieftains in the allied group. It's testament to her love, courage, and honour, and her fae powers; that the group of Kayori had survived.

It was then that the Kayori from the primary strand got it into their heads to see if they could find their lost loved ones existing in a similar universe, in order to bring them home and fill the aching void in their lives. They had sent Chimaera to search for such a universe and instead he found this other timeline, this sub-strand. It would not have been possible for the original four chieftains only, but they had been joined by Void's adopted son, a Chaos chieftain. With him, and with Vahl's evolving abilities, the project became viable.

With the efforts of the five chieftains from the primary strand, the surviving gods of the sub-strand were saved, and brought back into the primary strand. The exceptions were Versha and Tai who were now completely insane. They were left there to finish destroying everything, including themselves.

The rescued Kayori were as close to the ones that the primary strand had lost as to make no difference at all. So much so, that Drake and Corvo, who shared a soul, when faced with each other, almost instantly had their souls knit back together as one.

The sub-strand Kayori who had become chieftains, lost their chieftain-powers at once... but this was not a problem for them. Too great was the joy at being reunited with their long-dead fellow gods. Yes, they had grown in different directions, but they were still themselves, and all children of Danaë... who had been healed in the primary strand, some time ago.

This event marked the beginning of the Keldran epoch, known as 'The Restoration'.
